1. Gyan Mudra (Mudra of Knowledge):
Method:
Touch the tip of the thumb to the tip of the index finger, with the other three fingers stretched out.
Specialty:
As it is a mudra of knowledge, it enhances the knowledge. The tip of thumb has centers of pituitary and endocrine glands. When we press these centers by index finger the two glands work actively.
Time duration:
There is no particular time duration for this mudra. You can practice by sitting, standing or lying on bed whenever and wherever you have time.
Benefits:
• Increases memory power and sharpens the brain
• Enhances concentration and prevents Insomnia
• If we practice it regularly, it will cure all psychological disorders like Mental, Hysteria, Anger and Depression 
2. Prithvi Mudra (Mudra of Earth):
Method:
Tip of the ring finger touches the tip of the thumb, with the other three fingers stretched out.
Specialty:
It reduces all physical weaknesses.
Time Duration:
It has no particular time duration. You can practice it any time you want.
Benefits:
• It helps to increase the weight for weak people
• It improves the complexion of skin and makes the skin to glow
• It makes the body active by keeping it healthy 
3. Varuna Mudra (Mudra of Water):
Method:
Tip of little finger touches the tip of thumb, with the other three fingers stretched out.
Specialty:
It balances the water content and prevents all diseases which come due to lack of water.
Time Duration:
It has no specific time duration and one can practice it according to their time.
Benefits:
• It retains clarity in blood by balancing water content in the body
• Prevents the pains of Gastroenteritis and Muscle Shrinkage
4.Vayu Mudra (Mudra of Air):
Method:
Keep the index finger on the base of the thumb and press with thumb keeping the other three fingers straight.
Specialty:
It prevents all the diseases that occur due to the imbalance of the air.
Time Duration:
The practice of this mudra for 45 minutes reduces the severity of the disease in 12 to 24 hours. For better results practice it for two months.
Benefits:
• It cures Rheumatism, Arthritis, Gout, Parkinson's disease and paralysis without any medicine
• It is useful for Cervical Spondilytis, paralysis to face and catching of nerve in neck
• It corrects the disorder of gas in the stomach 
5.Shunya Mudra (Mudra of Emptiness):
Method:
Keep the middle finger at the mount of Venus and press it with thumb.
Specialty:
It reduces the dullness in our body.
Time Duration:
One can practice it for 40 to 60 minutes daily until to be cured from the disease.
Benefits:
• It relieves an earache within 4 or 5 minutes
• It is useful for the deaf and mentally challenged, but not for inborn ones.
6.Surya Mudra (Mudra of Sun):
Method:
Bend the ring finger and press it with thumb.
Specialty:
It sharpens the center in thyroid gland.
Time Duration:
Practice it daily twice for 5 to 15 minutes.
Benefits:
• It reduces cholesterol in body and helps in reducing weight
• It reduces anxiety
• It corrects indigestion problems

Bend ring finger and little finger and touch the tip of thumb with their tips keeping the remaining two fingers stretched.

As it is the mudra of life, it improves the power of life. Weak people become strong. It reduces the clamps in blood vessels. If we practice it regularly, we will become active.

No specific time duration. One can practice it any time.

• Improves the power of eyes and reduces eye related diseases
• It removes the vitamin deficiency and fatigue

It plays an important role in our health as it regulates the excretory system.

9. Apana Vayu Mudra (Mudra of Heart):
Method:
The tips of the middle finger and ring finger touch the tip of thumb, while the index finger touches the base of thumb and little finger stretched out.
Specialty:
It benefits the heart. It works like injection in the reduction of heart attack. It is as powerful as sorbitate tablet. It reduces the gas content in body.
Time Duration:
Practice it as many times as you can. Heart patients and BP patients can practice it for 15 minutes daily twice for better results.
Benefits:
• It strengthens the heart and regularizes palpitation
• It regulates excretory system
• It redeems gastric trouble
10. Linga Mudra (Mudra of Heat):
Method:
Interlock the fingers of both the hands and keep the thumb of the left hand vertically straight and encircle it with the thumb and the index finger of the right hand..
Specialty:
It generates heat in our body. Take milk, ghee, more water and fruit juices in addition to practice of this mudra for much benefits.
Time Duration:
Practice it any time you want. But don't practice it a lot as it produces heat in the body. It can cause sweating even in winter if you practice it longer.
Benefits:
• It stops production of phlegm and gives power to lungs
• It cures severe cold and bronchial infection
• It invigorates the body

management of erectile dysfunction
1. Avoid consumption of alcohol. If you are addicted to alcohol restrict the intake. Alcohol acts on central nervous system and causes erectile dysfunction.
2. Keep away from smoking. Men who smoke suffer from erectile dysfunction than men who do not. It is evident from researches. Smoking causes formation of plaques in arteries (atherosclerosis) which obstruct the blood flow.
3.Avoid working for long hours. Take a break from regular routine at week ends and spend time with your partner.
4.Practice Yoga and meditation regularly to keep away anxiety, depression and stress. Meditation and Yoga are best stress busters.
5.Do not have the fear of not getting hard erections or do not doubt your ability to satisfy your partner. It will lead to psychological ED.
6.Happy and comfortable atmosphere at home is very essential to stimulate sexual desire and keep sexually healthy.
7.Exercise regularly and daily. Brisk walk for 45 minutes is the best exercise which keeps the cardiovascular system healthy. Researches have shown that the incidences of erectile dysfunction are less in men who regularly exercise.
8.Weight reduction helps to increase testosterone level and increases sexual energy and stamina. Weight reduction helps to keep hypertension and diabetes in control. Diabetes causes erectile dysfunction and anti hypertensive medications may cause erectile dysfunction.
9.Marijuana, heroin, cocaine etc cause erectile dysfunction. Withdrawing from addiction to the above mentioned substances really helps in increasing erections and sexual stamina.
10.Reduce the frequency of masturbation. Masturbating twice in a week is ideal. .
11.Massage whole body with herbal oil at least once in a week. This increases sexual energy and stamina. Body massage (abhyanga) is mentioned as the best aphrodisiac in Ayurveda.
12.Sleep at least for 8 hours a day. Body gets energized with good sleep.
13.Do not control natural urges. Empty your bladder before going to bed with your partner.
14.Take all steps to prevent indigestion and constipation. Indigestion and constipation vitiate doshas and cause diseases.Hard erections will not occur when body is not healthy.
15.Avoid hot, spicy and bitter foods which imbalance vata . According to Ayurveda imbalanced vata causes erectile dysfunction.
16.Give a gap of four days between two consecutive intercourses.
17.Regularly consume Vajikarana Preparations. Vajikarana preparations always keep men sexually healthy.

ASHOKA RASAYANA
ashoka is a small, spreading, evergreen tree, with smooth brownish bark and compound leaves forming a dense crown. it has bright orange flowers in small dense branches and flat fruits with several smooth gray seeds. this tree has to be distinguished from the indian fir or mast tree, botanically known as polyalthia longifolia. ashoka is one of the sacred trees of the hindus. the dried bark of the tree constitutes the drug. the bark contains tannins and catechol. the powder of the bark contains silica, sodium, potassiom, phosphate, magnesium, iron, calcium, strontium and aluminium. a crystalline glycosidal substance has been isolated from the bark with galactose as the constituent sugar.
both the dried flowers of ashoka and the bark have been used in ayurveda for many centuries. the bark is prescribed in ayurvedic medicine for arresting bleeding or secretion and as a uterine sedative. it is said to have a stimulating effect on the endometrium that is, the mucuous membrance lining the uterus and on the ovarian tissues. it acts directly on the muscular fibers of the uterus.
diet criteria
people with this blood type are natural meat eaters.they should stick to a diet rich in proteins and low in carbohydrates.their bodies cannot properly metabolise a high carb diet,so if they don't stick to a meat diet,they will end up putting on a lot of weight.this blood type should cut down on wheat,milk and other dairy products as they can lead to lower immunity.vegetarians need not to fret as they can take all types of fruits and vegetables.

managing bed ridden patients at home
b:instruct the relatives to change position every 1 to 2 hrs.
c:feeding should be done preferably in sitting position and by self help;ryle's tube feeds in semi conscious patients.
d:give protein supplemants,avoid food that may cause diarrhoea.
e:give enema on alternate days to evacuate the bowels,use simple enema
f:instruct the relatives to sponge the patient everyday with a wet towel followed by dry towel,followed by eau de colone or talcum powder,teach them to move all the limb joints through full range,severa times a day.
g:check every 2 to 3 days over sacrum,back,greater trochanter and ankles,if bedsores is devdressing and padding.
h:avoid soakage of bed by urine or stools,as bedsores develop very quickly in such cases.
i:if urineary incontinence,apply a condom catheter.if urinary retention,insert a foley's cathreter and give daily bladder wash with boiled water and piodine.
j:encourage deep breathing to prevent pneumonia

drug interaction in epilepsy management
* this can ultimately lead to drug interactions which could be useful or harmful for the patient
*in observed 2 patients, which had well controlled seizures who presented with sudden loss of seizure control: a detailed history taking ;revealed that they had started taking shankhapushpi, a purported memory ehancer- animal studies with rats were carried out with single and multiple doses of the two drugs given alone and in combination. it was seen that on chronic administration both the antiepileptic effect and plasma levels of phenytoin were reduced by shankhapushpi. single dose administration of the drugs did not lead to any change in phenytoin levels. but decreased its antiepileptic effect. the interaction was found to be pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic.
*another marketed memory enhancer, mentat has been shown to increase phenytoin levels in rabbits.
*honey a substance widely used as a good vehicle for a given ayurvedic medicine has show to decrease the bioavailability of carbamazepine.
#in one study the first ultra structural evidences of neuroprotective properties in semecarpus anacardium and withania somnifera has been reported.ashwagandha ( w. somnifera) is gamma - amniobutryic acid - a( (gaba-a) receptor agonist, and katuka ( p. kurroa) has antioxidant action equal to alpha - tocopherol, which has an effect on glutathione metabolism in the liver and brain. subacute toxicity studies of groups like w. sominifera did not reveal any toxicity.
* a methanolic extract of w. somnifera root contains an ingredient that has a gaba mimetic activity.
* a clinical trial of rejuvenating drugs for the nervous system ( medhya rasayana) on epilepsy suggested that these medicines reduce the frequency duration and severity of seizures and have not shown any side effects.
*brahmi rasayana an ayurvedic preparation was studied in mice and rats its effect on the cns at oral doses ranging between 1 and 30g/kg. the study suggests an involvement of the gaba-ergic system in the medication of cns effects of brahmi rasayana.
* piperine, an active alkaloid of the piper longum and piper nigum exerted a significant protection against tetbutyl hydroperoxide and carbon tetrachloride hepatotoxicity by reducing both in vitro and in vivo lipid peroxidation, reducing enzymes leakage of glutamate pyruvate transaminase ( gpt) and alkaline phosphate ( ap) and preventing the depletion of reduced gluththione (gsh) and total thiols in intoxicated mice. piperine and its derivatives are effective anticonvulsant drugs that antagonize convulsions induced by physical and chemical methods. they also have sedative tranquilizing and muscle relaxing effects
**treatment of chronic epilepsy includes brahmi juice with honey and shatavari with milk,it is shown that the blood histamine level decreased from 0.9 to 0.37 ug/ml by vamana and the same is emitted in vomitus. this indicated elimination of toxic materials ( suksha mala) from the cellular level.
***first restore the activities of the heart mind and channels ( strotras) occluded by the dosha by using samshodhan chikitsa. vataja should be treated with basti, pittaja with virechana and kafaga with vamana. this is followed by medicinal recipes. primary therapy described in epilepsy is snehana where narayan tail is commonly used followed by swedana,in epilepsy where drugs are suitably prepared, a common vehicle is honey and salt,nasya is also an important treatment:anu tail, panchendriya vardhan tail and fresh juice of nirgundi are commonly used formulations. shirodhara is another part of the treatment.this is basically the pacificatory therapy:medicated oil, ghrita, decoctions of various suitable herbs and buttermilk are used

*no treatment reliably stops progression of this disease,so management aims to delay further deformity thru good posture,stretching nd deep breathing exercises.
ROLE OF SHIRODHARA IN ALOPECIA TOTALIS
*nasyam – one of the panchakarma therapy is essential to remove the doshas from the above clavicle region and provides lubrication and nutrition internally as the medicated oil in nasyam goes directly in shirha(head).
#this study was publshed in the journal of alternative and complementary medicine under the heading:psychoneuroimmunologic effects of ayurvedic oil-dripping treatment
*objective: this study assessed the psychoneuroimmunologic changes achieved by shirodhara, an ayurvedic treatment, characterized by dripping oil on the forehead, in a randomized, controlled protocol involving a novel approach using a robotic system.
*methods: in the first experiment for the determination of the most appropriate conditions of shirodhara, 16 healthy females (33 ± 9 years old) underwent a 30-minute treatment. in the second study, another 16 healthy females (39 ± 9 years old) were assigned to either the shirodhara treatment or control supine position for 30 minutes, with monitoring of physiologic, biochemical, immunologic, and psychometric parameters including anxiety and altered states of consciousness (asc).
*results: the subjects receiving shirodhara treatment showed lowered levels of state anxiety and higher levels of asc than those in the control position. plasma noradrenaline and urinary serotonin excretion decreased significantly more after shirodhara treatment than in the control. plasma levels of thyrotropin-releasing hormone, dopamine, and natural killer (nk) cell activity were different between control and shirodhara treatment. the correlation between anxiolysis and the depth of asc was significant in the shirodhara treatment group (r = 0.52, p < 0.05, n = 16), while in the control no correlation was obtained (r = 0.13, p = 0.64, n = 16). the increase in foot skin temperature after shirodhara showed a significant correlation with anxiolysis and the depth of trance of asc (r = 0.58, p < 0.01, r = 0.43, p < 0.01, respectively). nk cell activity after shirodhara treatment showed a significant correlation with anxiolysis and the depth of trance of asc (r = 0.33, p < 0.05, r = 0.56, p < 0.01, respectively).
**conclusions: these results indicate that shirodhara has anxiolytic and asc-inducing effects, and it promotes a decrease of noradrenaline and exhibits a sympatholytic effect, resulting in the activation of peripheral foot skin circulation and immunopotentiation
ROLE OF DUGDHIKA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF BLEEDING PILES
*anti-hemorrhoidal activity : euphorbia prostrata extract has been clearly shown to have significant anti-hemorrhoidal activity as demonstrated by ano-rectal body: weight ratio model in rats.
*anti-inflammatory activity : various components of euphorbia prostrata extract are known to affect inflammatory response to antigen. apigenin-7-glucoside inhibits release of histamine, generation of hydrogen peroxide and leucocyte infiltration at inflammatory site. luteolin-7-glucoside decreases leucocyte infiltration.
*haemostatic activity : euphorbia prostrata extract on topical application significantly reduced the bleeding time. this effect could play an important role in arrest of bleeding. wound healing effect : topical application of euphorbia prostrata extract has been shown to have significant wound healing effect.
*vasoprotective activity : flavonoids tend to decrease capillary permeability and increase capillary resistance. several mechanisms have been proposed such as inhibition of ascorbic acid oxidation, blood cell aggregation and stimulation of pituitary-adrenal axis.
*sclerosing activity : tannins present in euphorbia prostrata extract cause sclerosis of the mucus membrane by virtue of their protein precipitating property.
*anti-oxidant activity : flavonoids and phenolic compounds of the extract have anti-oxidant property which also contributes in healing of inflammatory tissue damage in hemorrhoidal conditions.
*not recommended in children, during pregnancy and breast feeding, if allergic to any of the ingredients and in patients on anticoagulant therapy
treatment/management of thyroid disorders through ayurveda
*there is santarpanatmak treatment available in c.ci.15/221, in order to calm the increased metabolism or agni-take the oily seeds like almonds,wall nuts,and sesame seeds
*panchkarma:-charaka approves virechana with kali nisoth c.ci.15/231
#in hypothyroidismavoid- refined foods,saturated fats,sugars and white flour products,cabbage,brocooli,kale,mustard green, peaches and pears
*include-sprouts,salads,raw vegetables,food rich in vit.a,iodine rich foods,zinc and copper reverse to be followed in hyperthyroidism
#as mentioned by charaka "vikaranamkusalo" exact nomenclature is not neceesary for all the diseases.it insists on diagnosis of constitutional state of the disease.
*hypothyroidism:-
1.at hypothalamus-pituitary level(sec./tertiary failure)-(anti stress drugs,medhya-rasayana,nasya karma is beneficial.
2.at thyroid level(primary failure) thyroid stimulatory drugs are recommended
3.at metabolism level:deepana,pachana,ushna,teekshna,sukshma,lekhana, drugs to be given.
4.immuno modulatory drugs for AI related hypothyroidism
5. due to genetic and hereditary defect comes under adibala pravritta vyadhis and these are asadhyas
6.if due to congenital defects comes under janambala pravrita vyadhis,these are preventable if proper pathya apathya is followed during pregnancy.
7.the main cause of hypothyroidism is iodine deficiency,as per sarvada sarva bhavanam- iodine containing drugs like shigru,jalkumbhi are advised here.
8.kanchanara guggulu 250mg b.d. with shigru patra kwath 250ml b.d. for three months is very effective
adult hypothyroidism (galaganda)
*susrutha stated that rivers flowing towards east might give rise to the occurrence of galaganda. *bhela described that sleepada and galaganda are more common in prachya desa (eastern part) of the country,and the persons consuming predominantly fish are liable to develop galgaganda. *harita samhitakara described the role of dushtambu and krimi dosha in the precipitation of galaganda.
*kashyapa added that any part of the country which is cold, damp, with densely grown long trees, water stagnation and heavy rains may be prone for the development of galaganda.
* management:in this case may be iodine deficiency, as per sarvadha sarva bahvanam-iodine containing drugs like shigru, jalakumbhi should be given.shigru is a well-known plant in india. it is rich in iodine, which is an essential component of thyroid hormones, t3 and t4. it has deepana, pacahna, kapha vata hara properties. it is recommended in galaganda, kandu, sotha, apachi, vrana, medoroga, vidradhi, gulma etc.is selected as anupana along with kachnara guggulu. it appears to provide it with iodine, which the thyroid gland require.
selection of drugs acting at various levels:
*at hypothalamo pituitary level: anti stress drugs, medhya rasayana drugs, nasya karma may be beneficial.
*at thyroid gland level: thyroid stimulatory drugs are recommended here.
*at metabolism level: deepana, pacahana, ushna, teekshna, sukshma, lekhana drugs which pep-up body metabolism is recommended.
*immuno-modulatory drugs for autoimmune related hypothyroidism.
**yoga:sarvangasana is the most suitable and effective asana for the thyroid gland. an enormous pressure is placed on the gland by this powerful posture. as thyroid gland has one of the largest blood supplies of the any organ, the pressure has dramatic change on its function, improving circulation and squeezing out stagnant secretions. after sarvangasana practice of matsyasana and halasana is beneficial. other effective asanas include surya namaskara, pavanamuktasana with emphasis on head and neck exercises, yoga mudra, sputa vajrasana and all backward bending asanas.
**pranayama: the most effective pranayama is ujjayi. it acts on the throat and its relaxing and stimulating effects are most probably due to stimulation of ancient reflex pathways within the throat area, which are controlled by brain stem and hypothalamus. nadi sodhana pranayama is useful in re-balancing metabolism
**animal studies have revealed that guggul supports healthy thyroid function, mostly by increasing the conversion of less active thyroxin (t4) to more active triiodotyronine (t3) through increasing thyroid proteolytic activity and the uptake of iodine into thyroxin, and without increasing the production of thyroid stimulating hormone.
**selenium is required for a number of enzymes known as selenoproteins. the chemical reaction, which converts thyroid hormone t4 into t3, is catalyzed by specific selenoproteins. selenium deficiency can impair thyroid function. the drug pippali increases the absroption of selinium and this may be cause for the effectiveness of vardhamana pipppli in hypothyroid conditions

know the SPF you need
]*skin experts recommend that everyone should use atleast spf 15 before they step out in sun,if you are going to spend a lot of time out in the sun,use spf 30 or higher.,whichever spf value that you use,be sure to reapply the sunscreen every two hours,else its effect wear off,even if the suncreen is waterproff,you need to apply it every two hours as it comes off because of water and sweat.
*mixing products with spf does not necessarily add upto higher protection,for instance,using an spf 15 moisturiser with an spf 15 sunscreen does not result in spf 30 protection.
*spf has its limitation though,it only measures the protection yo get from uvb,which are the sun ray's that cause burning,an spf does not tell you how much protection,if any,you are getting from the sun's uva rays which are responsible for tanning,and premature aging of the skin,to ensure you are protected against uva as well uvb,make sure that your sunscreen contains avobenzone,titanium dioxide,or zinc oxide.
*tips for sunscreen use:
a.don't skip areas including ears and lips,all exposed parts of your body needs sunscreen.
b.while sunburns are immediate signs,without regular sunscren use,you could eventually see wrinkles,skin discolouration,and skin cancer.sun damage acumulates over the years.
c.to ensure that you get the amount of spf on the product label,you need to apply it generously and evenly all over your skin.put on sunscreen at leat 20 minutes before you go outside ,because the chemicals need time to bond with your skin before they are totally effective.
DIET IN DISORDERS
--a:for calcium:take plenty of milk,and milk products like-curd,cheese,take plenty of green leafy vegetables,among fruits-guava,sitaphal.sea food like fish is very rich in calcium.for natural build up of calcium:it is important to have a daily walk of 15-20 minutes,and weight bearing exercises like low impact aerobic exercises,climbing stairs and running,do not do muscle building exercises like weight lifting,bull worker,or springs.
--b.for vitamin d-take eggs,liver,spend 15 minutes in sun 2-3 times a week to get natural vitamin d
* DIET IN FEVER:
1.take soft foods-ganji,kheer,soft rice with milk/ghee/plain daal,boiled vegetables,you may take a little lime pickle or papad for taste but no chillies,dont take any oily or fried foods.take plenty of water,lime water,coconut water or electral water,take milk with horlicks or bournvita,with the meals you may take soups,butter milk,but avoid cold drinks,cold water,ice cream.
2:for snacks you can take plain idli with butter,bread butter,toast jam,corn flakes,take fruits like apple,banana,pear, citrus fruits,water melon,you may take dry fruits and biscuits
*DIET IN FLATULENCE:
1.avoid all oily and fried foods:pakodas,samosa,namkeen,potato chips,puri-bhaji.
2.avoid tubers like potato,sweet potato.

*principle is to have more of proteins and calcium,and restrict intake of salt and potassium,you can have normal quantities of carbohydrates and fats,so take your rice,roti,chappati,sugar,jaggery,potato,and vegetables.
*you can have oil,ghee,butter,milk products,meat.since there is proteinuria,take plenty of dals,sprouted pulses,beans,soya bean,milk and milk products,meat.
*do not take salt rich foods:pickles,papad,sauce,cheese,salted butter,salted biscuits,wafers,salted peanuts/cashews,pop corn,salted butter milk.
*if serum potassium levels are high: avoid k+ rich food like:chocolates,grapes,mosumbi,potato,yomato,banana,papaya,and leafy vegetables,to remove k+ from vegetables-cut them into small pieces and keep in water for 2 hrs,then throw the water,and cook the vegetables.
*for calcium,take plenty of milk,amongst fruits-guava,sitaphal,fish
***if serum creatinine is high,then protein intake has to be restricted.
